James Crawford Angel was born August 1, 1899 near Cedar Valley, Missouri and spent his teen age years in Lead Hill, Arkansas.

Ky Laffoon was a golfer of note after the Great Depression and through the World War II years in US tour history. He was noted for both his temper and much-admired swing, and there are many legends (a few of them even true) about his on- and off-course antics. Ky was known as an excellent teacher. Hogan and Ott were among those that he helped. As for Ky’s record, he finished first or second 62 times between 1930 and 1953. He was leading money winner in 1933 and 1934. He finished tied for third in the 1936 U.S. Open, was fifth at the Masters in 1937 and reached the semifinals of the PGA Championship in 1937 and quarter-finals in 1945 and 1947. He also represented the U.S. on the 1935 Ryder Cup team.
