The Wilkerson/ Wilkinson Family
Isaiah Wilkerson came to the Peel Area from Ohio in the 1840's, settling on the White river between Coon Creek and Music Creek. He married Mary Howard first and on her death her sister, Elizabeth. Mary and Elizabeth were daughters of Billy Howard. Isaiah Wilkerson served in the Union Army during the Civil War, and was wounded in the battle at Yellville. He drew a union pension under the name of Josiah Wilkinson, some of the next generation went by the Wilkinson name the second generation changed back to the original Wilkerson. Isaiah's son John married Emma King, daughter of William King. Their children were Pate, Bob, Jim, Frank, Ace, John, M.J., Charley, and Jerry. M.J. was a daughter, she and Ace and John died young. All are buried at Peel except Jerry and Charley. Isaiah Wilkerson is listed in the following stories from the Turnbo Papers located in the Green County Library:
